Finger Knitting from Ann's Yarn Barn

I've been playing around with finger knitting and found using my cord technique and mohair yarn make these delightful necklaces and bracelets.

Follow along to make your own.

What you need for this project

Scrap yarn
Two buttons
Yarn needle

How to make a mohair necklace and bracelet

  1. Tuck the tail of your yarn between your pinkie finger and your ring finger on your left hand.
  2. Wrap the yarn over your first finger from back to front.
  3. Take the yarn under your middle finger.
  4. Wrap over your middle finger from front to back.
  5. Wrap the yarn over your first finger from front to back.
  6. Bring the yarn under your middle finger.
  7. Wrap over your middle finger.
Hold the working yarn steady between your thumb and hand.
You have two loops on each finger.

Lift the loop closest to your palm over the top of the other loop and drop it - this form your first stitch.
Repeat with the second finger leaving one loop on each finger.

Wrap the yarn over the two fingers as above to give you two loops on each finger.

You can drop the tail you have been holding in your pinkie and pull slightly to tighter the cord as you work.

Continue to the length you want. For a necklace measure it so you have enough to wrap 3 or 4 times to give you the length of necklace you want. In my one it measures 60 inches in total.

To Cast off - take the loop from your middle finger and put it on the first finger, lift initial loop over this one, then pull the remaining yarn through the last loop and tighten.

To Finish:

Fold your cord 3 or 4 times to the length you want your necklace to be.
Sew the ends together gently with the tail.
Use one tail end to wrap lightly around the necklace or bracelet.
Use a yarn needle to sew through and through to secure it.
Add a button or a flower as embellishment.
